Cities of Gold CasinoThe Cities of Gold Casino has a full-service hotel with 124 guest rooms, a full-service restaurant with room service, an outdoor cantina (seasonal), free wireless, a laundry facility, pet friendly, a business center, and 6,600 square feet of meeting space. This casino is in the Santa Fe Area and close to winter and summertime activities at 6000 feet elevation in the mountains. We have not been to this particular casino yet, but look forward to going there sometime this year.

Guests have complimentary access to the modern gym and pool, located at the nearby Wellness Center. Free shuttle service is available to the Buffalo Thunder Resort and Downtown Santa Fe. Everyone should visit the old town area of Santa Fe and visit some of the artists that develop various items.

Santa Fe is a wonderful city to visit with an old town area that is vibrant with shops and artisans selling jewelry made by locals, and art of all kinds around the town’s central square.  In the central square, there are many native artisans that make all kinds of beautiful jewelry that can be purchased at reasonable prices. There are hotels within walking distance of the downtown area and lots of parking. Santa Fe also offers hiking, skiing, and horse riding among other sports in the area. The homes are southwestern and you can choose from local suburbia to homes up in the mountains overlooking the city. Spectacular!

Route 66 Casino

January 7th, 2012 ernie Posted in New Mexico 1 Comment »

We have always wanted to stop at the Route 66 Casino located just west of Albuquerque, New Mexico and we finally did on our last road trip through this part of the southern United states. The Route 66 casino is approximately 20 minutes west of the city. It is a great place to stop for the night if you are traveling through,  need gas or need a room and a good place to sleep. This casino hotel is right on interstate I40 on the south side of the highway about 10 miles west of Albuquerque.  We stayed there one night and will definitely stay again sometime at this hotel when we are in the area.

This is an Indian run hotel and casino, so there is smoking allowed in the casino, however they do have well equipped non smoking rooms. We also ate at the restaurant in the morning for breakfast. The meal was large, at a good price and the service was excellent. One of the big advantages of staying at this particular hotel is that the Indians have decided not to charge state or federal tax, so the price you are quoted is the price you pay and it was very reasonable. This was the first time we had stayed at this particular hotel so we paid the regular rate. Next time we hope to pay less since we signed up for a slot card!

Hotel rates are very reasonable, no taxes on your room!

Easy access fromI40

Safe environment in the casino, hotel and parking areas

Great stopover point on your way past Albuquerque or points west or east

They also had cheap gas at the time we stopped there as well.

What We Did Not Like

There are no real complaints about the Route 66 hotel & casino, other than they allow smoking in the casino , which most if not all casinos do in the US. Some are just better with air circulation than others.
